This standard police multi-function weapon, with its rifled barrel, was originally intended for dealing with civil unrest, as well as selective military, psychiatric, and chemical applications. It was developed in haste by a department of the Ministry of State Security back when the aftermath of the Brown Plague was being eradicated in Europe and groups of marauders and other criminals needed to be dealt with.

In Facility 3826, it was introduced as a standard weapon for security personnel and was usually loaded with non-lethal ammo.
This shotgun became popular not only in the USSR, but in most other allied countries too, having acquired almost the same level of notoriety as the legendary Kalash. The versions that were exported for the police in African countries and special forces in Eastern Europe replaced the standard weaponry literally within a year.
